Simple, Quick, and Easy Vanilla Brown Sugar Syrup

I love love love my coffeeshop lattes, but I do not love the price tag that comes with it. After adding it up we realized we were spending over $300 a month by going out for coffee… What? There is way better things we could put our money towards, so we decided to start making coffee at home and research espresso machines.

We settled on this Nespresso Vertuo Plus that makes coffee and espresso. It comes with a milk frother that works amazingly well with our favorite oat milks so I could make my delicious lattes 🙂

My only issue was that I love flavored lattes. I got to work making yummy flavored coffee sweeteners. At the time I was obsessed with brown sugar oat milk lattes, so naturally my first experiment was a vanilla brown sugar syrup to make my own homemade brown sugar vanilla latte. I was beyond surprised that it turned out so well and it is so simple, quick, and easy to make!

Start by adding the brown sugar and water to a saucepan. You can use white sugar in place of the brown sugar(or even 1/2 brown sugar and 1/2 white sugar), the end result would be slightly sweeter with white sugar. I am currently on a brown sugar oat milk latte kick, so the brown sugar is my jam right now.

Bring the mixture to a simmer and make sure the brown sugar is dissolved. Let the brown sugar and water mixture simmer for about a minute.

After the brown sugar and water mixture is done simmering remove it from heat and add vanilla extract. Stir well and pour vanilla syrup into airtight container. Store this in the refrigerator up to two weeks.

This vanilla brown sugar syrup has a slightly sweet taste of vanilla. It makes me so happy knowing that by making this you know exactly what is going into it(no added preservatives or anything like that). It is perfect to sweeten coffee and lattes!

To make my perfect latte I add about 2 tablespoons of this syrup, espresso, some frothed oat milk, and a dash of cinnamon to the top and it reminds me of brown sugar oatmeal. Yum!

You could pretty much use it in any other recipes you would use a vanilla simple syrup. If you try this recipe I would love to hear your feedback and see your recreations. Please leave a comment, pin, or tag me on Instagram @healthyhathamama and #healthyhathamama. Have a Healthy Hatha day friends!
