Yummy Ninja Turtle Smoothie

Breakfast in our house is always a blur… Between getting two toddlers ready, and getting ourselves ready for our day it is crazy busy. We want to make sure our boys have a nutritious yummy breakfast, so I tend to make smoothies to compliment their toast with peanut butter or pancakes. One of my kids favorite kinds of smoothie is my special ninja turtle smoothie, this is super simple to make and the kids love it!

The first and most important step is to blend the spinach/or any green that you would like up so you barely notice it in the smoothie. You do this by take half the bananas, about 1/4 cup of water(a little more water if you use frozen bananas), and a handful of thoroughly washed spinach(which comes out to approximately 3/4 cup). I will typically blend this for 1-2 minutes in a high speed blender (we loved our Ninja Blender, but have upgraded to the Vitamix and couldn’t be happier), if you notice some of the ingredients sticking to the sides of the blender make sure you stop the blender and use a spatula to scrape the sides down. Blend this mixture until it is smooth.

Once the spinach is blended, you will add the frozen mango and blend until smooth. Again if there are pieces that stick to the sides of the blender just turn it off and use a spatula to scrape it down and blend. If it is too think then you can add a little bit more water too.

After the mango mixture has been blended you will add it to your cups, leaving about 1/4th of the room for the berry mixture. If there is leftover mango mixture you can just add the berry ingredients to it(the berries will cover up the green), no need to waste any yumminess!

For the next step you don’t need to clean the blended or or even rinse it out, I mean you could if you wanted to, but it would be an extra step that isn’t necessary. You will add the berries, remaining banana, and water to your blender. Blend the berry mixture until smooth, approximately 1-2 minutes.

Once berries have been completely blended you will add it to your cups. The smoothie should be thick enough that they will be separate layers. My boys love that these look like ninja turtles. They drink up every last drop which makes me a proud mama since it has a lot of vitamins and nutrients!
